Start from where you are. Seems like such simple advice, doesn’t it? Yet as humans, this is a concept we often struggle with.
The main reason for this, is our brains have incredible powers of recall and as such we are often stuck on where we have been and what we could have done differently. In essence those things don’t matter – well, not as much as where we are at this very moment and the possibilities that are now open to us.
We can learn from looking back, but we can’t go back, so it’s important to not get fixated on the coulda woulda shoulda. Instead let’s look at the coulds and woulds. (I will never recommend that you should yourself).
In order to make progress we need to keep facing forward and to keep moving, even if that is just one step at a time. Allow yourself a backwards glance if you must, but don’t turn around – you’re not going that way! Don’t reach for the past, because the past is gone. Start from where you are and lean into the future.

I have written previously about starting over, and the fact that literally every day we are gifted the chance to begin again. Grab your chance and take that step. What you haven’t done, doesn’t matter. What you wish you hadn’t done matters even less. All you have any bearing on is what you do next.
Decide what you need to let go of. Somethings are just too heavy or too awkward to carry with you. Maybe it’s time to set those things aside to make your forward journey easier.
It’s honestly so counterproductive to waste your time and head space wishing you had done something yesterday, last week, last month. Put your energy into the here and now. Draw a line under what was and walk towards what will be.
Start from where you are. Always.
